The current situation
The Waste
Recycling Group (WRG) proposes to redevelop industrial land in
our area to build a new waste-burning incinerator, able to
manage up to 240,000 tonnes a year of waste.WRG are about to
begin to assess the impact of the new facilities on the site and
surrounding environment. A planning application will be
submitted to both Hull
City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council because the
site crosses the border between the Councils. The planning
application is expected to be submitted in June 2006.The
applications are likely to be determined in late 2006 or early
2007 and if the Councils approve the planning applications, they
hope to have the new facilities open in 2009/10.

Latest News
in the HOTI campaign
HOTI was set up in
December 2005 to defeat the proposals to build an incinerator at
Saltend. Two public exhibitions have been held since December,
including a HOTI Road Show which toured South West Holderness,
visiting Hedon, Preston, Thorngumbald and Bilton.
There remain many
unanswered questions concerning the decision to opt for
incineration, the location of the proposed site, and even why
other alternative sites have been rejected. The environmental
impact on the local area and how 240,000 tonnes of waste a year
will be transported to the incinerator are two key questions
that have yet to be answered. |

Concerns expressed
by residents at publics meetings have included concern about
emissions, the possible consequences of accidents, and the
possibility that waste might be brought in from elsewhere by
sea, rail or road.
HOTI is determined to put the
strongest case against the plans and is ready to fight the
planning application when it is submitted in the summer. We have
urged WRG and the local councils to be as open as possible
during this process and ensure that the best possible decision
is made by the planning committees. E-mail

get involved and help us take this campaign forward.
